    Wednesday 23 July – A Real Pain
    August no film

    28 May     Juror #2        12A       1 hr 44 mins
Expectant father Justin Kemp (Hoult) is called up for jury duty. It isn’t long before things take an abrupt, unexpected turn: The defendant has been charged with murder, and Justin realizes that he himself might be the unintentional killer. The film also stars Toni Collette as the prosecutor.

“Eastwood has explored systemic injustice before, including in Changeling and Richard Jewell. This is a stronger movie than those two by far, and if this one proves, as rumors have it, that it’s his last as a director, he is going out with a bang.” New York Times
“If this is to be a swansong, it’s a fitting one: a thrillingly watchable legal thriller about truth, justice and (for better and for worse) the American way, as told by an all-American icon.” Empire
“Clint Eastwood’s finest film in years.” The Telegraph

25 June     Bridget Jones: Mad about the Boy    15    2 hrs 4 mins
Bridget Jones navigates life as a widow and single mum with the help of her family, friends, and former lover, Daniel (Hugh Grant). Back to work and on the apps, she’s pursued by a younger man (Leo Woodall) and maybe – just maybe – her son’s science teacher (Chiwetel Ejiofor).

“Four years on, Bridget is older, wiser, sharper, funnier and marginally less dependent on pratfalls to deliver laughs. All of which means that this, the fourth film in the series based on Helen Fielding’s beloved creation, is the most satisfying and unexpectedly touching Jones outing since the first movie.” The Guardian
“The sequel we didn’t know we needed, Mad About the Boy is a heartfelt, charming return to the chaos surrounding the one and only Bridget Jones. You might even shed a few tears.” Empire

    23 July     A Real Pain       15    1hr 30mins
American Jewish cousins David and Benji travel to Poland to see their late grandmother’s childhood home. Benji (Kieran Culkin), an outspoken and free-spirited drifter, stands in stark contrast to David (Jesse Eisenberg), who is a quiet and practical husband and father. Their adventure takes a dark turn when the odd couple’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.

“It may be formally unadventurous but A Real Pain is a real treat, a tender, funny treatise on family jealousies and our relationship to the past. Simultaneously light and heavy, it soars on the stellar pairing of Eisenberg and Culkin.” Empire
“A finely tuned, melancholic and at times startlingly funny exploration of loss and belonging.” New York Times
“The writing is sublimely satisfying and textured, the characters persuasively realised, and the jostling, combative dialogue feels fully alive and refreshingly unpredictable, rather than a laboured assortment of words on a page.” The Guardian
